OK..... a 'contest' kinda thing to start the year off right ;-)

UPDATED: See this post for new deadline ;-) Best laid plans and all that.

So, I don't really believe in New Year's resolutions, for a variety of reasons (the primary reason being I celebrated the new year that matters to me back in September....and then there's that never keeping them thing....).

But the 'holiday' season has meant I've had some time off from work, which means I've had some time to clean and to knit.....and to contemplate the state of my apartment. I've been feeling a bit crushed for a while.....I'm so SABLE it's approaching the ridiculous ;-) OK, it's not only the yarn that's the too much stuff issue, but the yarn is a big part of it.....

And I've had a chance to clean out the email inbox a bit, too..... including the notices for my blog stats - which say that 30 to 50 people visit most weeks.

So, to do what my mother called multi-bird killing (that old two birds with one stone thing.....), here goes:

If you leave a comment on any of my posts from now to January 18th at 9pm eastern time, I'll enter your name in a hat to win a package of yarn from me. No guarantees on exactly what I'll put in (I'll try to send colors you like, if you specify a preference in the email I'll need with a shippign address, but I'll say upfront that my stash is light on the ROY part of the spectrum......), other than it will be new and at least 200g/8 oz., not have any smoky smell, and be reasonably good to excellent quality. Oh, and if more than 25 people comment, I'll send 2 packages out ;-)

And if you don't knit/crochet? I'll send it to someone you know who does [so, yes, Chaviva, if you comment, it doubles Yael's chance to win grin]....or I can send it to you to give as a present (my low impulse control in a yarn shop can be your easy generosity.....)

You get yarn, I find out who some of my readers are..... win-win ;-)

UPDATED to add: If you spin or sew, don't feel left out......I've got roving and fabric to throw in a package, too....yup, packrat central here ;-)

What a wonderfully spirited way to start off the new calendar year!

I've posted about your contest on WiKnit, my knitting contest blog

I don't quite buy into the SABLE theory, as I've ben told every skein of yarn received adds at least a week to LE. ;) But a generous nature probably adds more enjoyment. Thanks for having this contest. I found you on WiKnit, and I'll post to my blog as well.

I agree - I don't believe in New Year's Resolutions either - they just lead to breaking them and feeling bad about it. That's the theme of the contest on my blog - come on over and enter!

Happy New Year! While I do knit...I'm a beginning spinner so roving is what I'd like most to receive if I'm lucky enough to win. Thanks for holding a contest and being so generous!

Happy new year. I ascribe to the theory that whoever dies with the largest stash wins :-). I'm counting on amassing a lot more before that time comes.

I know how you feel. I am trying to knit from stash. I knit and spin. My favorite colors are blue and purple or anything bright.

Hi, BJ. I read about your de-stashing on dKos, and would be most appreciative if you'd put my name in your hat.

lol, i am so not a sable ... yet! Can that be a resolution for the new year to try and reach?Ah, but i don't make those...i like to think of things as "life changes" . It would be fun but pricey! smile

love your bird quote though, will have to remember that one!

will post a link as well!

I'd never heard of SABLE before. :) I agree with Kitten that more yarn just adds to your life expectancy, right?
Happy new year!

Found you on the Wiknits contest blog. Evergreen should get an extra point dont you think ?

Im a humble knitter and a quirky blogger. Current WIP is a log cabin blanket. My daughter is a great knitter who used to work in our LYS. She is making a gorgeous cabled hood/scarf from an Interweave pattern. Happy Comments

OK, you know my colors and since I've benefited from your yarn generosity before, I KNOW you give wonderful yarns. Count me it!

What a nice way to start 2009! If I win, I'm thinking that I'd like something in a pretty green or maybe gray.
I came from WiKnit.

Happy 2009 to you! Fun way to start a new year and great to desash and declutter. Several years ago I gave away & sold a house full of "stuff" in order to move into a motorhome. Funny how my knitting stash has grown even if the other possessions haven't. LOL

I'm trying to only accumulate and give away yarn via stashes and contests. Minimal purchases to save money.

WOW! A SABLE stash :-) On the other hand I think a knitter can't have too much yarn... Still I hope and wish for you that 2009 will be a blessed year, with lots of knitting hours!

But... a contest is always fun to enter - thank you for organizing one.
Might I be pulled out of the hat: in my home there is a majority in men, and they don't like pink. Every other colour is fine though :-)

I agree with you on New year resolutions. My option has always been that if it is so important that you feel the need to change something, why wait until the new year to do so?

Anyway. Thanks for the chance. I found you on Wiknits blog.

I like natural fibers best... any color.

Wow, great start!! I made some goals... i don't like the word resolutions... sounds like the things set are out of my reach immediately... so goals have been set. But realistic, easy to attain goals!!! I'm not quite to SABLE, but I hope to be soon!!!

Unknown said...

Oh, I just love (the fingers started to type lust by mistake)many of the colors of both your projects and the stash. I am no where near SABLE, so would love to win more yarn.

Taylin said...

I knit, spin, and sew. All of the prizes sound good to me! :)

Thanks for a fun contest.

I always resolve to knit from my stash and not buy anything new until I really need it. HA.

Happy New Year! I don't believe in resolutions, either. Especially since the memory isn't so great, and when it is, you try to figure out a way to cheat it, or feel bad about breaking the resolution.

I am mostly an enabler. I love to buy yarn for other people as well as myself. I stalk sale bins and buy odd things and challenge others to find great things to make from these finds. I'll probably continue doing it - it is so much fun, although I do love yarn myself and also do make things myself.

Happy new year whenever yours falls.

You're blog is very interesting reading. Thanks for the contest and feel better soon.

Hey, there. I came here via WiKnit. I have to say there's nothing wrong with too much yarn, unless you're skimping on food and heating costs to buy it, which I don't think too many people are. ;)

Anonymous said...

I totally understand the too much stuff issue, but in my case yarn and roving aren't (yet) playing a big part in it. I've pretty much only bought yarn for one project at a time, and when I plan a project these days I first consider doing it with my handspun (now I need to devote more time to spinning...), so all in all things aren't too bad on that front. Still, there is too much *other* stuff around here!

Happy New Year! (Chinese New Year also began Monday too!) Please enter me in your contest. I love to knit and crochet, and my favorite colors are blacks, greens, and browns. :-)

P.S. I never heard of SABLE and had no idea there was "craft slang" beyond "frogging" and "FO". :-D
